Blancpain @ The Lamborghini Super Trofeo - Monterey Laguna Seca Races
May 06, 2014,17:06 PM
From 0.001 horsepower to more than 700+ horsepower.
Energy. I have
a thing with energy; correction, I have a perpetual fling with energy. Especially energy measured in
horsepowers, preferably lots of horsepowers on an open road. The potential energy of a roller
coaster at the top of a grade, tens of thousands of horsepower engines powering
airplanes taking off, hundreds of horsepowers propelling Lamborghini race cars
through a turn, the tiny 1/10,000ths of a horsepower of kinetic energy powering
a precise Blancpain Swiss Watch…
Blancpain, "the oldest Swiss watch brand" (since 1735) has
tamed the energy released in a mainspring, but also understands and
participates in high-energy activities as an official sponsor of the
Lamborghini Super Trofeo racing team.
PuristSPro was graciously invited by Blancpain to sample energy in these
extreme formats. E=mc^2 approached by two very different companies.
The Hospitality area has an observation Deck
Is this the shuttle car? 700 Horsepowers. That's a lot of energy.
Check in desk
There are a few Blancpain clocks in the hospitality area.
A terrible photo of three nice watches.
Carbon Fiber Dial. This is a very nice watch. Remember the AquaLung that used the same movement?
Titanium bezel.
Very pretty in rose gold.
Hexagon cut-outs on the strap match the hexagons on the tablecloth.
Blancpain tablecloth.
Look at the beautiful dial of this watch. It's Mother of Pearl dial has a design that reminds me of something that'd be from Marrakech.
A nice guilloche dial in silver. The Blancpain Villeret line is the brand's top seller worldwide.
For those who live in humid climates or just prefer metal bracelets. The fine links of this gold bracelet makes the bracelet very supple and comfortable.
Colored gold not your thing? How about this?
The ladies version has everything then men's version has on the dial. But I prefer the men's version so much more that I would even recommend the men's version to a lady.
Can you tell this watch is actually a chronograph?
Retrograde date. Diamond stars. Mother of Pearl Dial.
The classic.
My favorite.
Notice the rotor has cutouts that resemble the wheel of the Lamborghini Murcielago.
Carbon fiber inlaid in the deployant buckle.
Notice how this yellow car takes the turn.
Braking point.
Start from the outside of the curve.
Turn in.
Approach apex.
Yellow car has now just hit the apex.
Yellow car has exited the turn.
At the paddock where the car is maintained. Notice the trailer on the left.
Notice the Blancpain livery on the top of the windscreen.
Entrance to the trailer
The inside of the trailer.
This guest is wearing two Blancpains; 50 Fathoms on his left and Villeret on his right wrist. Also notice carbon fiber trim on the cabinets.
Trailer has everything to sustain a family of four.
Tires
Big garage space just above the trailer. But not a lot of room to open the car door on the side.
The Blancpain watch that's supposed to be a part of this photo is still on the wrist of the racecar driver.
Fuel. Petrol.
Fast pump.
Dry Tires
Wet Tires
Brake rotors
Notice they're floating rotors meaning the disc is separated from the hub. This is done because the disc gets very hot and expands. If it were to expand while on the hub it would warp the hub assembly. Also notice the slot design.
Blancpain signage on the back. That's what you see after you've been passed.
Fresh racing tires, ready to be bolted to the car.
A Four Piston Caliper brake.
A very comfortable office.
This car is a factory race car for Lamborghini Carolinas, a region in the United States. More Blancpain signage on the car.
Suspension coilover. Notice the brake is a metal brake, not a ceramic brake.
Steering wheel in the office.
This is turn 1. It's a double apex turn. The first apex is just before the car.
The Lamborghini Super Trofeo car is approaching the 2nd apex.
The car has now passed the apex.
The view from the observation deck.
I really like the new Bathyscaphe. Difficult to photograph though.
The movement is finished beautifully. It has beautifully polished anglage.
The winding rotor is actually made of 18K gold.
I even like it on the green NATO strap.
This special edition 50 Fathoms is all black thanks to a polished DLC coating.
A Nautilus winding rotor
Again, the same Caliber 1815 movement finished quite well.
A wrist shot. The lugs look like fangs.
Another limited Edition 50 Fathoms.
The propeller rotor is funny and whimsical. But the perlage on the rotors is quite serious.
A lot of energy, but all of it in precisely controlled amounts. The slightest increase in energy absorption in a watch can make a watch overly fast. Too much throttle in a turn may upset the race car. Life is a study of energy.
Thank you for viewing and many thanks to Blancpain for inviting us to the Lamborghini Super Trofeo races! Please share your thoughts and comments below! What's your favorite Blancpain? And how about the new 50 Fathoms Bathyscaphe, do you like it? How do you like your energy served?
My favorite Blancpain is the relatively new Bathyscaphe, especially on a Nato strap. The Caliber 1815 movement is also exceptionally well finished. For half the price of a Patek Philippe Nautilus or an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, this watch has an exceptionally well finished movement, especially in its price category. Making the Blancpain 50 Fathoms Bathyscaphe a great value! They make a Titanium version with a black ceramic coating (aka Ceramised Titanium), on a Nato strap that's my favorite!
