A Missing Link between the Mil Spec and the Tornek Rayville?

May 11, 2009,22:46 PM

Sorry for the evidence, but the more I dig in the Fifty Fathoms topic, the more I discover things, and sometimes mysteries.

A few weeks ago, I discovered a watch which may represent THE missing link between the Milspec and the Tornek.

The Milspec, you all know it:

The Tornek :

Now, let's see how this missing link is looking like:

Exactly the same case, lugs, the same big crown we find on the Civilian Milspec, and the same writing we find on the Military Milspec.

The Case back is almost the same than on the Milspec, with one exception:

Instead of the engraving Blancpain Milspec at the center of the case back, you have here a small inscritpion:

AM ( I don't know what it stands for ) and a 2 digits number XX.

But the dial ( with the exception of the writing ) and the hands are the same than on the Tornek Rayville.

Even the bezel is the Tornek Rayville thick one!

Don't know how to call it:

A Transitional Milspec?

A Pre Tornek?

A Pre Teaser, maybe, as a Review on the Tornek is in the Tube!

smile

But in any case, a real nice watch, whose interest is due to its part of Mystery.

Enjoy!

Best,

Nicolas

Well, this one I don't know as it is not mine,

But I can tell you that the others work perfectly, and if it is not the case, I send them for a service. They are very accurate watches, but I wouldn't test their water resistance, of course. Best, my friend. Nicolas

To be continued ...

Not all the FF come with a 41 mm case, there are smaller, and sadly, some very nice one, as some terrific Lip Blancpain with the same indexes as the new Fifty Fathoms. But the case is 35 mm... OUCH! Best, Nicolas

Nicolas, I'm completely ignorant with Blancpains...

Is the TR made by Blancpain for the US market? What's the big deal about these models that members seem to talk a lot about? Please enlighten me about the pedegree of these models...I would like/and would be interested to know. Thanks Rod

The Tornek was made, and used by the US Army ( Navy Seals ) in 1964, and 66. So this is a true Military Watch. THe Milspec may be military, or civilian. But wait a bit, a review on the Tornek is in the tube, as well as a review of a special milspec. I jus...

Not mine, my friend. But I'm still looking for one or two FF to close my collection. As for the movement, yes, on the Tornek the movement is a 1361 N , but I'm not sure that it is also hacking on this one. Will try to ask to its owner. Best, Nicolas
