For those of us concerned with the huge magnetic fields from laptops : real data - 1000 Gauss.

Dear friends,
You might have noticed that MacBook Pro laptops generate impressive magnetic fields.
I have just used a professional gauss-meter to figure out the real value. Basically, there are 2 "hot spots" (unfortunately on the left side of the computer, just were your watch is situated when you use the keyboard) were the field reaches 1000 Gauss (=0.1 T). Of course, this value decrease fast with distance - say this is the highest value you watch can "meet" when you use your computer. The mean value will be closer to 100 Gauss.
I have tried using commercial magnetic shielding (thin mu-metal sheet) : it only decreased the field by 20%, not very interesting.
I would conclude that watches using a silicon hairspring should be safe with this. Others can be in serious trouble.
Do you agree ?
Best.
