So I've had this watch for over a month now and wanted to do more of an in depth review of this special piece made by Blancpain.........
Let’s start with the boxes, I've owned tons of watches over the last five years and nothing comes close to topping this one. I was even able to get the humidor set for it so this makes it the first watch box that I've ever actually used!
The cigars!
Here's an up close shot of the temperature gauge.
The main concern for me about getting this watch at first was the busy dial, there are numbers all over the place. I have to admit that it's kind of hard to follow everything going on here but I do have to say that the dial has really grown on me over the last month or so.
This is a watch that when the sunlight hits the dial at certain angles its the nicest looking piece that I've ever seen and at other angles the watch just looks good if you know what I mean. I wish that I was able to capture this in my pictures, Rob who owns this piece as well does. Maybe he can share some photos if he reads this.
Here are the chrono pushers, the center crown has an extra pusher in it that operates the split seconds function. The flyback function is operated by the bottom chrono pusher. The movement is an F. Piguet caliber I believe.
There are four small pushers on each side of the case that operate the perpetual calendar as you can see at 15mm this watch is pretty thick for a dress watch.
The caseback is solid????? How could Blancpain do this and not show such a beautiful movement? This is really the only complaint that I have about this watch but a major disappointed IMO. I know another collector has this piece with a see through caseback specially done by Blancpain. I'd love to see pictures of the movement again if you read this!
I did have a problem with the single deployant fitting me well as the watch would float all over my wrist. I flipped the buckle to the other side and problem solved.
Here are some wrist shots. My wrist is around 6 5/8ths at 42mm's this watch fits it almost perfectly.
Now some comparison shots with my two other dress watches. As a dress watch, it really shows how big this piece is. The Lange moonphase is 38.5mm's in diameter.
The Langematik is 37mm's in diameter.
In ending, I think this is one of Blancpain's finest pieces although it really is not a "black tie" watch due to its size and thickness. (How often do we go to those anyway) I do really love wearing it to the office and on the weekends with a pair of jeans or shorts. It's a great piece to wear on either occasion and at this point, a watch that will be in my collection for a long time to come! I hope you enjoyed the review.
