Brussels World's Fair 1958

Mar 01, 2011,15:57 PM

Congrats Nicolas!

The international event is indeed the Exposition Universelle 58 in Belgium.

During 6 months, 200 watches were presented at the Swiss Pavilion of the Brussels World's Fair.

Outside the pavilion

Inside the pavilion, on display: the watches had been selected to illustrate the high skills of the swiss watchmaking industry.

For the exhibition, no brand name were displayed on the dials.

For all watches, one common mark on the dial: the star, symbol of the 58 World's Fair, designed by Lucien De Roeck to represent the 5 continents.

Last but not least, a nice pair of 2 diving watches: the Rolex bathyscaphe and the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms that I wanted to present you with this riddle.

Nice post. The illustrations of this era had a " je ne sais quoi " which was very charming. 1958 was a year rich in events. I wonder if Blancpain managed to keep this FF in their museum. That maust be THE rarest FF. Best, and thanks for this post. Nicolas...

Well done Marv, That was a fun post - I'm sure Google has never had so many 'events of '58 searches in a 24hr period!! I had searched, but the best I came up with, is that its the year that Yogi Bear made his debut (don't think they would have released a ...
