Very nice review Nicolas, and here are my thoughts...

Nov 01, 2014,04:22 AM

It's important to note that I've been diving for about 15 years and have logged well over a hundred dives, and in all kinds of conditions, from the warm crystal clear waters of Cayman Islands and Bali to the murky and cold waters off the coast of California and South Africa. I've done wreck dives, night dives, and even a cage dive with Great Whites!

And in all these years and all these dives, I have never seen anyone wear anything more expensive than a Rolex Sea-Dweller! And that's on VERY rare occasions and always worn by "tourists". I have never seen a crew member or a self respecting dive captain with anything more expensive than a Citizen.  I have never seen a Blancpain nor an AP Diver, not to mention the ridiculously absurd, such as the likes of Richard Mille RM025 Diver Tourbillon!!!

What I think a diver needs is legibility and dependability and a watch that wouldn't give you a heart attack, should you bang it against a dive tank wink

That being said, I still appreciate the Blancpain X Fathoms. Perhaps not as a dive watch, but more as a watch that represents the technical prowess of Blancpain. And of course, I still very much enjoy reading your reviews smile

Thanks again,

Kamy

Blancpain X Fathoms, the ultimate Fifty Fathoms?

 By: amanico : November 1st, 2014-00:07
When it comes to Fifty Fathoms, you know my taste.... Vintage, big case, Rotomatic Incabloc, 3/6/9/12, Milspecs, No Rad, Barakuda and " Tutti Quanti ". A bunch of good old " Fifties "... But that doesn't mean that I have zero interest on modern variations...

Very nice review Nicolas, and here are my thoughts...

I too doubt that professional divers will wear this X Fathoms, or any other ...

Modern diving Watch. Computers are more reliable and accurate, and much less expensive. ;) But as an expression of a modern diving Watch, why not.... Thanks for your meaningful input, my friend. All the best, Nicolas

Well Said

Hi Nico I think you captured the idea of the X Fathoms well. Why should progress stand still? Is there not room to evolve a classic using today's materials and some new innovations? That is the idea of the X Fathoms. The original Fifty created by Jean-Jac...

Thanks for your input, Jeff. I, too, quite love the idea behind this FF.

An Xtrem FF, that is the purpose of this Watch. Much more interesting than some other modern FFs released these last years. Best, Nicolas

I think its a great addition to the 50 fathoms line despite the unpractical aspects pointed out earlier. It looks great in pictures, very intimidating in real life. It does not have the daily wearability of other high end dive watches from Rolex, AP or Ri...

Thanks Amanico

Even when it is not impossible to wear it on my wrist, it is seriously BIG and for sure nothing to wear 24/7 :-) Still like it a lot and I think it was a good and important "finger exercise" for Blancpain. Something like a concept watch ... and it showes ...

Well, not too monstruous, on your wrist. I really have to see it.

I don't know how I will do that, but I have to test it in the real.... Yes, like you, I think it is a very interesting try from Blancpain. All the best, Nicolas

I would recommend to ask ...
