Hi CL....

You are right. I don't know you and neither you I. This is a forum and I hope you will take it in that light. I may not have said much in this forum todate but I have been lurking here for a bit smile And I know you have recently acquired a Simplicity (and whilst this is said in parenthesis, CONGRATULATIONS!!! on securing a masterpiece). And what I am about to say is just my opinion.

There's a subsequent post about you being a "purist" in what I understand to be seeking out the 'ultimate' in a watch strap to match your recently acquired masterpiece. But in my opinion, and whilst I don't profess to know anything about haute horologerie, blah, blah, blah, but to me, if the maestro has chosen to match his work of art with an appendix from Camille Fournet, how dare one question his choice of that "appendix" and replace it with an "inferior" product?

Let's leave economics out of the equation for the moment as I have since noted, there's obviously a difference in economics between an Hermes strap and a 'mere' Camille Fournet (mind you, I have tried securing their products in this part of the world and I can assure you it is tough....in part due to my inexperience, I must say). And pardon me for this Dr Cheong as I hold your opinions and views in the highest esteem (I am in part referring to your response about the Hermes bag/belt ) and i say this sincerely. You are ultra super cool for the fact that you match a "plastic" strap on your MB&F.

I am one of those who would replace straps with 'OEM's" (original equipment manufacturers) straps because I accept that it is part and parcel of what the manufacture intended for the watch. And in this instance, a "Simplicity" by the maestro is like haute couture and it tantamounts to questioning, say Mademoiselle Chanel about using stainless steel chains in her suits.

Frivolous as it may sound, in my opinion, haute horologerie is not that different from haute couture if we view the concept in its purest form i.e. as an art.

Sincerely,

Tat

Did you get a chance to play with the Parmigiani Toric Tourbillon

 By: mkt33 : June 25th, 2008-09:49
at the SF GTG a few weeks ago? It was on a new Hermes strap. It cost about $450US. I have to say it is by far the most comfortable brand new strap that I've owned. Soft and supple. Better than a similar CF strap new. I cannot comment on the durability/wea...

Is alligator on both under and upper right? From what I understand, only a very few number of brands do this, and the two that I know off are both independent - Dufour and Gauthier. Apparently CF prices these style of straps close to double what they woul...
