45 vs 42mm Fifty Fathoms

Mar 22, 2024,13:11 PM

The new 5010 is more than a pure size reduction, various small but significant details give the watch an aesthetic harmony boost.

More hands-on impressions coming soon 😇

Have a great weekend everyone!

Wonder then if the new small but significant details …

… will cause those who got the Act 1 to be disappointed somewhat ?

I’m all for this new model.

Curious about the upgrades, as for the date, it’s so small and integrated that it’s barely noticeable. I hope the ergonomics have improved on some way!?

His and hers

Just kidding, your wife can have the big one

Hopefully the new style trend is women wearing the big watches

so us men can go back to wearing the reasonably sized ones!

This made me laugh

Date issue here and with the breguett xx amd zenith

Can someone give rational reason whatfore the date in a watxh serves today? I mean: nowadays we see the date constantly everywhere Well you can say: the time as well. In the TV, cell phone .. So we cone to the conclusion that a modern mechanical watch is ...

I suppose that to most people still, a watch isn’t complete without a date

 By: dte2 : March 22nd, 2024-17:33
It is just as much part of the watch as are the seconds hands. Which is why most will have them, such as the ever popular Rolexes, Pateks, APs, etc.

I have no problem with the date on this watch, however...

Your point about the modern mechanical watch is right on, and I wish the brands would take recognize it a little more fully. These things are NOT necessities, so they shouldn't be bowing to 'necessity' in how they design them. They should treat them as th...

It’s one of the reasons I sold my Daytona

I am just used to seeing the date on my watch whenever I look at it, and don’t like looking at my phone to know what date it is.

 By: m2 : March 22nd, 2024-21:06
I actually use the date a fair bit, but prefer no date or a very subtle date like this. ...

Looks great!

Good photo comparison, which reflects the 45mm version's absurd (IMO) size. It also looked absurd on my 7.25" wrist, both diameter and thickness. Like a kid wearing his dad's watch. Cute when your a kid; not so much when you're the dad wearing the watch. ...

Cool picture comparing sizes...

It looks very good (the new one)... luckily for me, this one is still my favorite modern FF .... ...

Very nice

 By: blau : March 23rd, 2024-11:56
I've gone from "that is my favorite modern FF" to "I wonder which one I'd like better". Which is already a win for the new watch!

always good to have many appealing options :)

which, in the recent years is not often the case when watch brands make releases

My favorite as well.

Great shot. So classy. Among the many differences, for me it’s the absence of date that takes it to the next level.

That is a great photo comparing the two! I can't believe just how much smaller the watch looks with just a few mm shaved off

 By: Fastwong : March 23rd, 2024-02:02
I'm not switching from the og 45mm with this release but excited to see what new variants may come. Smaller, lighter, thinner, winner. The date doesn't bother me but a no date Nageurs De Combat retro style release would have me camping out at the boutique...

The size difference is significant!

And with the short lugs, it would work well for many. I am fine with the position of the date window that does not cut into the hour indices at 3 or 6 o’clock.

Date window

 By: Artago : March 25th, 2024-08:58
Moving/removing the date window is desired by many for the Fifty Fathoms despite 4:30 being the perfect spot for it. Causes the least disturbance to the dial, doesn't cut off or replace indices, and most important, it is out of the way for dives, when it ...
